In 2012 Peter Jackson watched his son Brett hit a ball at Petco Park, San Diego that ran into a "wall of wind" which turned Brett's home run into a warning track out. That inspired Peter to wonder if there was any way to quantify the effect of wind and weather on balls traveling through the air.

He asked Bill Martin about this and Weather Applied Metrics began. Bill talked to numerous engineers and scientists before recruiting John Farley, who in turn recruited Doug Sinton.
