A’s to Sign Loaiza
2005-11-28 13:46
According to Ken Rosenthal, the A’s are about to sign Esteban Loaiza to a 3-year, $21 million deal.
This deal makes very little sense to me in isolation. It has to be part of some bigger plan.
I gotta run–I’ll be back at 3pm PT and add some more comments.
Update #1: Dave Cameron at USS Mariner thinks the A’s made a good deal.
Update #2: Blez likes it, Zachary doesn’t (much).
Back again later. Busy day for me, sorry…
1. Since you posted this in Humbug, and not Catfish Stew, I'll assume that you're waiting for someone to figure out that Esteban Loaiza is "A zito sale bane," (or maybe "zealot in a base").
2. Alright, since this is on Humbug, here goes nothing:
While searching for bargain-bin buys-a
A shiny thing caught Billy's eyes-a
But when he got home
He let out a moan:
"My God! I just bought a Loaiza!"
3. Transcending what seems
Sensible to other teams
Beane pursues pipe dreams.
4. D'oh! That's what happens when I'm in a hurry. Fixed now.
5. But those poems are nice. Perhaps I should make this mistake more often, eh?
6. Loaiza really pitched his heart out this last year, in a bunch of close games where he got crap run support. If I recall, he only got one or two of his wins because he drove the runs in himself.
That said, my carefully thought out and highly reticulated curvilinear analysis of the multivariate emoluments coursing through this deal is: Gee, $21 million seems like a heck of a lot of money for three years of Esteban Loiaza.
Good luck. Nats fans will miss Loaiza.
