Humbugardy: Double Up
by Score Bard
2005-11-17 8:23

This is round 2 of Humbugardy. I’m your host, Alex Scorebard.

It’s time to double up! The category is Sudoku for 800. I will post the answer tomorrow.

For The Turnstiles controls the board, and he can choose the exact time I post. When the post goes up, those who have bet will have fifteen minutes to email me their responses. The first correct answer wins double their bet. The other correct answers get their bets, and incorrect or missing answers lose their bet.

Place your bets in the comments before midnight PT tonight. Anyone one the list below is eligible to bet. You may bet all your points, or up to 1,000 points, whichever is greater.

For The Turnstiles – 5463

1.  You should consider waiting until the exact time is determined before placing your bet.

2.  Also, let me know if you think any of the scores listed above are incorrect.

3.  I don't need to wait to see the exact time, so long as that lonely zero is next to my name.

I bet 1,000.

4.  But if you lose Philip, you owe the Score Bard 1,000 unique sonnets about the Oakland A's.

6.  How about 9 AM pacific?

I'll wager 962.

7.  9 AM Pacific, it is.

8.  9AM Pacific on Friday 11/18? That's noon EST? Okay. But I'm confused about the points we're allowed to bet:

"all your points, or up to 1,000 points, whichever is greater"

Are you saying that people with fewer than 1,000 points can bet 1,000 points? Otherwise this would simply say "up to all of your points," right?

Either way, I bet 500 points.

9.  Yes, noon EST, Friday 11/18.

And yes, people with fewer than 1,000 points can bet up to 1,000 points.

10.  I'll wager 1,000!

11.  I went for broke last time and, well, ended up broke.

Put me down for a cool 1000, too!

12.  4 -- I could write 32 sonnets about Shooty Babitt alone, Bob, so I'm not worried.

14.  What does one get for being tied for fourth?

What's that? A kick in the arse?

Right then. Put me down for 1100.

15.  1000 please

16.  I remember being tied for 1st in this once upon a time. Oh well, first, fourth, just a few letters difference, right?

Gotta keep pace, so I'll bet the whole 1100 too.

17.  I'd like to change my bet to $0. I've got a meeting and won't be able to Sudoku.

18.  I'm working late tonight, so odds are against my being awake, let alone alert, at 9am tomorrow. However, this is Humbugardy. Really, I'm just happy to have gotten this far, and I'm gonna leave it all out in cyberspace, 'cause you never know if you'll ever make it back here. I'll put 50 points on the line.
