Huston Street blows a three-run lead in the ninth. I can’t take it anymore. I’m fasting the rest of the regular season.

1.  You're going to lose a lot of weight.

2.  You mean, until they clinch or die trying?

Or is this a playoff purification fast that you'll continue even after a clinch?

3.  I'd lose more if I watched another A's disaster.

4.  2 There won't be a clinch. They're gonna choke in some unbelievable fashion like they always do.

5.  I find it unlikely that Oakland could have a choke of the same dimension as St. Louis is trying to pull off.

6.  Unlikely is irrelevant. Kirk Gibson was unlikely. A 7.0 earthquake was unlikely. Billy Hatcher was unlikely. 0-9 in ALDS clinching games was unlikely. 0-10 in playoff coin flips was unlikely. All those things were unlikely, and they all happened. So what makes this any different?

7.  Or, just call it the curse of TLR.

8.  Is Buck Martinez or Joe Buck at the game?

9.  And tomorrow they face a former Angel.

10.  whoa Ken... I thought I was the only one who felt that way.

I had a really bad feeling with how they played against the Angels... I wish I could say this isn't happening. But it is, again. When everything is on the line they do the same damn thing every. single. time.

I can't believe the A's are going to break my heart again! At least I won't be there in person this time.

11.  Hey Ken ... if you are fasting, it'd be best if you gave your perishable foodstuffs to us, lest it go to waste.

(just sayin')

12.  I'd just like to know at exactly what point Huston Street morphed into Octavio Dotel? I'd rather have Duchscherer closing games right now.

And Ken, reading #6 made me feel ill. Thanks.

13.  Since when have the A's choked during the regular season? I thought the 21st century A's saved their choking for the postseason.

14.  13 May I remind you that the A's have been in first place on September 1 each of the last two seasons, and failed both times to make the playoffs?

It's the natural progression of things. 88 and 90 they choked in the World Series; 92 in the ALCS, 2000-03 in the ALDS. 2004-06, regular season.

Next year, I suppose, they'll choke in August, and it won't feel so bad.

17.  how did we manage to avoid the choke in '89? or is SF just cursed worse than we are?

19.  It's almost official, you'll need to fast the entire playoffs...

20.  17 We paid for our victory with a massive earthquake.

In honor of which, I spent this evening watching a PBS Nova documentary on supervolcanos.

Apparently, it takes huge natural disasters to beat the jinx.
