1. All of these are lists of people who have never been in my kitchen. vr, Xei
2. I am just glad I got this teaser in my paper right today:
1
256
729
1024
625
216
49
?
After I got the answer to that, my brain just shut off. Unfortunately yours is a little tougher.
3. Oooh, puzzles.
In the first list, column 1 is ranking by WPA per fangraphs.com, and column 3 is ranking by VORP per baseballprospectus. Column 2 has me stumped, as I can't think of anything Jason Kendall is that good at other than getting hit by pitches and scowling.
List 3 is some sort of cumulative measure of value with Oakland.
My guess for List 2 (and possibly also list 4) is search terms that have landed people at this blog.
4. i have no clue to what that list means?
5. Oh right, WSAB per hardballtimes is the other column in list 1.
6. I'm guessing the third list is Win Shares and linear weights for players while with Oakland.
7. 2 Those are all squares except 216 which is 6^3. Care to share?
8. Maybe the 256 should be 128, then the ? would be 8... making the sequence 1^8, 2^7, 3^6, 4^5, 5^4, 6^3, 7^2, 8^1.
9. Turnstiles is good at the puzzles. He's right about list 1, 3, and 4.
List 2 is the top non-baseball-related search terms for 2006 which brought people to Catfish Stew. List 4 is the top baseball-related names which brought people to Catfish Stew.
doppelganger is almost half correct on the third list. The columns are career Athletics win shares, and win shares per year. It's the top 25 career totals, sorted by win shares per year.
The reason I say "almost" is that the total win shares are for players who played in Oakland, but not necessarily only "while with Oakland". If they played in Oakland, but were with the team in Kansas City, those KC numbers are also included.
10. The Griddle's top 10 non baseball related search phrases that found the site:
Pluto

Germany vs Argentina

Brazil vs Ghana
Korea vs Togo

Germany vs Poland
11. 10 Mine's a much more eclectic list than yours, Bob.
12. 1 - Xeifrank, you just brought back my favorite cheers moment ever, and I am thankful for that. I am pretty sure Cliff made me cry with laughter with that final jeopardy answer.
13. Matt Kemp? Did I miss the big Catfish Stew feature on him?
14. 13 catfishstew.baseballtoaster.com/archives/408185.html
15. 14
i remember lurking on to those pics when you 1st posted them.
16. Brad Ausmus was among the Top 10 for baseball related terms. Despite the fact that I never wrote about him except in passing.
The Brad Ausmus Google phenomenon is one I can't understand.
17. Bronx Banter's top 10 non-baseball-related search phrases that found the site (note Alex has been writing far more than I have of late):
1. Burning of Slaughterhouse 5
2. Brr stick em ha ha ha stick em
3. When did Sizzler in Bergenfield close
4. Cliff Corcoran (!)
5. Sad Songs Friends Moving Away
6. Moving Bronx
7. Don Corleone mayor
8. Dicey Morris Collins Conflict 14th Ed.
9. Murdalize
10. Newsday
If you think #4 is cheating shift 5-10 up one and add new #10: Herve and Tintin.
Interestingly, #11 would then be "Ken Tremendous"
Of course the secret here is that everything from "Moving Bronx" on down is based on one hit only. Which opens up room for my favorite: "pitchers of Eminem."
18. Cliff, your list is for November only, which doesn't say much, because there's only been a day and a half to measure.
If you filter the stats for the whole year, you'll find that your top five looks like this:
1. oblique muscle
2. i got five on it
3. bar
4. monster jam
5. i can't quit you
19. 16 -- Oddly enough, I am the author of the bulk of the Brad Ausmus Wikipedia entry (#5 on the Ausmus Google list). I went on a Jewish ballplayers binge at Wiki a while ago, and as a result have contributed to a great number of their pages -- but for some reason, I got more involved in Ausmus' page than most.
The Ausmus Mystery deepens.
